Entries for May, 2004

OK, so this is my first tabulas entry; thanks to Roy for showing me the way. I figure it would be a cool way to let off some steam, and I like reading what Roy, Yush, and Godwin write. Alas, it's 5:30 in the morning, so now is not the time to be writing, but it'll come soon.

I wish finals would just end already! A performance at 8 in the morning tomorrow, and a test at 4, then a test at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. I also have yet to finish a project due on Tuesday, and I'm not feeling like working much at all. Summer can't come soon enough. Anyway, I saw Man On Fire last night, the new Denzel Washington movie. It was pretty long, but really good, and there's not much I like more than seeing Denzel blow people to hell. I stayed up until about 6 a.m. for some reason, hanging out with Pete and Kris, and I slept for a looooong time, until about 2:30 today. Oh well, not like there was a ton to do. I also heard from my dad today, who's called the last two days, but I haven't called back because of everything going on. I wish people would understand that IT'S FINALS WEEK! and I don't have time to call everybody.

I'm watching the Red Sox-Rangers game right now. Is it just me, or does A-Rod look worse every day? Every team he leaves is instantly better, and his new team is worse. Plus, he's barely hitting .200 right now. I love it. As for other things I hate, it was good to see the Lakers get whacked today; I think the Spurs will win that series in 5 games, if not sweep them. At 8 o'clock I went to watch my Nets, but apparently I mixed something up and we don't play until tomorrow.

I'm still debating whether or not I'll work on my project tonight or not. It shouldn't be hard, and I'm about halfway done, but I'm just feeling very lazy, which shouldn't surprise anyone. I'll probably end up hanging with Pete and Kris again, especially seeing as Kris is gone in a few days to grow potatoes in Idaho and marry ten nice Mormon girls.

Haven't played any poker today, although I may look for an Omaha game a little later on the computer. My total winnings are over $1700 now, and there's $400 on it's way to my house now. I'd be over $2000 if it wasn't for Jess, but I never told her she owed me, haha.

Anyway, I think I've written enough for my first real entry in here. Night everyone.

No more pencils no more books... School's done. Not a moment too soon, either. I always have mixed feelings about leaving Chapel Hill, though. On the one hand, I love being able to come home, spend some time with my family and friends, and relax and get away from schoolwork. On the other hand, it stinks to leave everyone at school, especially Kris, Ali, and Anna, who are graduating. Plus, I just love that place. Anyway, today was pretty crazy. I got two hours sleep, then took my communications final, did decent I think. Then I packed all my stuff in the cars and checked out. I'm finally not getting charged for anything! Plus, I found a volleyball laying in the quad, so I took it, haha. After that, me, Mom, Grammy, and Papa all went to Lenoir for some lunch. Grammy and Papa talk to everyone! It's so funny, I told them it's like one big party every time they come. They were chatting up one of the Lenoir workers who had about three teeth in her head. Good stuff. Then we took off. I drove up until Washington D.C., because my back was killing me. Me and Mom were racing a little bit, with the two cars, and at one point she got pulled over by one of those cops that hide in the bushes. I thought he was gonna get me but he zoomed by me and got Mom instead. It was funny as anything. Eventually, we stopped for dinner at some diner in Maryland, I believe. Grammy got these pork chops and she complained the whole time. After we were done, the waitress brought the check and Grammy said, "I hate to tell you this, but my food was disgusting." I almost died laughing right there, so the rest of the night I kept telling everyone, "I hate to tell you this, but you're disgusting." Then Grammy thought Mom stole ten bucks from her when they were paying the check, so of course I was enjoying myself. We got home at about 11:30, so we made decent time. Then we unloaded all my stuff, and my room is filled to the brim. I barely have room to stand, although it's a little better now. I hooked up my computer on our new wireless internet, which is awesome by the way. I figured I'd play some poker, and after getting some real nasty beats last night, I figured I was due for a turnaround. Wrong. I sat with $80 playing 2-4 Omaha, and on one hand I flopped a set of queens, then got it turned into a boat. I was raising like crazy, and this one guy kept raising back at me. Turns out he got a straight flush on the turn, so he took $40 from me right there. I ended up losing the rest, so I figured I'd try a hold 'em tournament. I played a ten dollar one and started out great. I was second in chips pretty much the whole time, just a little behind the leader, and we were down to 5 people. I had about $2800. I had king jack under the gun, and I limped in, not wanting to get crazy with it. The blinds called and checked, respectively, and the flop was king queen 4. The small blind bet 300, the second man folded, and I raised him 800, having top pair with the jack kicker. I figured he would have raised with a better king, and I seriously doubted he had queen 4. Anything else and I had him beat. He flat called me. The turn was a 2, and he went all in. I thought about it for a while, and was still convinced I had him. I just had about $150 more than him, so he was basically putting me all in, too. I called him. The river was a 6. Turns out he had king 6, and caught the two pair in the river with the only card that would have beaten me. Sometimes it's just not your day. I think pokerroom is trying to get back at me for cashing out $400 last week. So I was dead a couple hands later. That put him up to about $5800, with the chip lead. Grr... I'm so angry right now. I'll probably take a break for a few days to get my head back in order. So now my account is down to $246. Nothing to laugh at, but I was over $400 a couple days ago. Anyway, after all that I decided to hook up all my electronic goodies in my room, so I now have my Playstation 2, Gamecube, and VCR all connected and working. There are wires everywhere, and I think if I sneeze too hard, the room will explode. But I'm going to go now and take my aggression out by using my virtual Kris to beat people up in Fight Night. Night all.

OK, so last night we had our first poker tournament since I'm back. Seven people: me, Tom, Charlie, Foti, Nick, Nick, and Spiro. $25 buy in. Very first hand I get pocket aces, and Spiro raises to me, I think ten bucks. We started with 150. I reraise another 30, and he calls. Flop was king queen 4. He bets 30, I go all-in, he folds. Man, I was shaking after that. Anyway, everyone calls everything with garbage in these games, so I was just playing real premium hands. Nick stuck jacks and 6s on Tom who had kings, and there was other various nasty stuff. So I get pocket queens a while later, and I raise 25 to come in. Two guys call me, Tom and Foti. The flop was jack 7 2. They both check, I bet 60, and Foti raises all in. I think about it, then call him. He had a flush draw, but didn't catch so I doubled up and took the chip lead. Soon Spiro and Charlie get whacked, and then Nick and Tom a little later. Nick was just retarded because he was giving his chips away, and he gave his whole stack to Foti calling with just ace high to go out. I was pissed because it kills the whole balance of the game. Foti now had a huge stack, even though he was in trouble after the hand with me. So it's me, Foti, and the other Nick, and we're all about even. I get pocket 4's after a while, and I just limp in. Foti raises 30. I told myself to go all-in because he wouldn't be able to call me, but I flat called him. The flop was 9 3 3, and he bet out 80. I figured he was full of it, and he just had overcards. I went all in, and he called. He had 9 10. Man I was so pissed, I totally screwed it up. So anyway, Nick ended up beating Foti, then me, Tom, Charlie, and Foti all went to my house to play some pool and gamble some more, haha. Me and Tom were on one team, Charlie and Foti on the other. We get in the house, and Matt is sleeping in the basement, and he won't leave. I tell him he can sleep in my bed, and we each offer him $5 to go, for $20 total. No dice. Matt curses and mumbles, so we decide to play anyway. Me and Tom took $30 apiece off them, so it covered our buy-in, plus 5. By time we were done it was 7:30, so we went to get some breakfast at the diner. I came back and passed out for a while. When I got up, I bummed around, then we went to see Korin off for her junior prom, which is costing insane amounts of money and production, and it's not even the real prom! Kids these days... Plus, she's going with this guy named Vito, and I don't trust guys named Vito. He showed up late, had on a pink tie, and a beard. All things I don't trust. She won't be back until tomorrow sometime. After that, we had Papa's birthday dinner at Chili's, with most of the family there, so I got to see everyone. Then the Nets lost, and I'm angry now because we should be able to kill the Pistons. I also fought Matt a bunch of times in Fight Night and beat the bejesus out of him with Frazier, HAHAHA. Now little Jim is sleeping over. I think tomorrow I'm going to try and see Van Helsing, which looks pretty cool. Anyway, I'm writing way too much, so I'll end it here. Night.

So I haven't written anything in a while, mostly because I've been all over the place. I went up to Delhi for Crystal's graduation. The campus was actually nicer than I expected. You could see the hills and mountains in the distance, and it wasn't snowing! It was actually hot, which was shocking, considering I had equated the place to the North Pole in my mind. I drove up there with Crystal's sister Mallory, and that was fun because we just made fun of everything we saw the whole way. On the way back, Crystal was with us, too. The night we got there I watched the Nets game, which went to triple overtime, and gave me even more gray hairs, but the Nets pulled it out, although they lost at home tonight with a chance to win the series, so I'm nervous now. Game 7 is on Thursday. Why the heck is there so much time between games?! If not for the Nets, I would hate the NBA. But I digress... The graduation took place in the gym, which was ridiculously hot, and I was dead tired from the drive over the day before, on top of only about 4 hours sleep. RIght after the graduation, we drove back down. I dropped Crystal and Mal off and came home, planning on passing out immediately, because I was dead. When I walked in the door, though, there was a poker game going on with some of my Mom's friends, so naturally I got in. That lasted for a while, until about 3 a.m. I went and passed out, then woke up at 5 p.m. the next day. Yes, I know I'm a bum, but I was drained. Some good news is that this guy Dave that played poker last night had his two kids with him, two young girls named Jacquelyn and Christine, I think. I found out that one of the girls left her Game Boy SP here by accident, so I've been playing it all day. I'm so bad. I told my Mom to tell them they can come get it when I beat the game. Anyway, tomorrow is the first day of work back at the magazine, and I'll actually be getting paid this time! I'll find out Wednesday how much it'll be. John at work also told me he'll get me U.S. Open tickets out at Shinnecock. Life is good. It's also less than two weeks until my birthday, so everyone go get me big presents and parties! Haha, goodnight.
